Separation Anxieity

More changes for our sweet little boys... some good, some bitter-sweet. Earlier this week Hayden made the move from bubble c-pap to the high flow nasal cannula. That means oxygen with a higher flow to help keep his lungs expanded. He did great on his new support.

As for Ford, the doctors are trying to find his happy spot so he can get off the vent and back on to bubble c-pap. He is getting so big now, 5 lbs. that he just really fights the tube... which of course he needs for the ventilator to do its job. He is down on sedation so he is very aware there is a tube down his throat and a bigger one than just a week ago when he helped extubate himself. That was Saturday... he had to be reintubated and then it took a while to find the best spot for his tube.

That same night... 2 babies didn't make it in the NICU, that's 4 total since we have been there. I try to remember Ford and Hayden likely have different problems than those little ones... I still get scared and sad, especially for the families. It is hard to see, but Trey and I must remain faithful that the Lord is going to save our 2 little men so we can be a family soon in Tyler.

I just kept reading the boys scripture over the weekend from my book, God's Promises for Everday Life. There were a couple that really helped me. Here's one:

Nothing bad will happen to you. No disaster will come to your home. He has put his angels in charge of you. They will watch over you wherever you go. The Lord says, "If someone loves me, I will save him." Psalm 9:10-11, 14.

We had a long night with Ford on Saturday after he helped pull out his tube... we were at the hospital until 6AM. Slowly but surely he has gotten better this week... he has had to be bagged a couple of times because he went into the ugly cry and dropped his heart rate and Oxygen saturation.

Hayden really surprise us this week with his good ole college try at breastfeeding and bottle feeding. He is slow to be able to suck, swallow and breathe! Still he is doing remarkable and has been moved to the Progressive NICU... That is the bittersweet part of this post. Ford is now alone in the NICU missing his brother and Hayden is trying to get down on his Oxygen and learn how to bottle feed. I have to admit I cried because I just hate that they are separated, but hopefully Ford will speed up his recovery and soon be on Hayden's heels.

The wonderful thing is they are getting bigger and stronger everyday! They are so thankful for your prayers and look forward to many to come.

5 lbs...thats near take home weight. WOW, now to just get all those little lungs working properly.Hayden is doing so good and Ford, well he's gonna be the one to make you loose your sleep, when he gets older. He'll be o.k. He's just needs a little extra attention and more prayer time. He helped pull his tube out? That little guy is getting ahead of himself.
I was so glad to see an update this morning. We are remembering ya'll in our prayers.
God bless and keep ya'll

Bless your hearts! Each little step, in the right direction, has a positive and a negative. The positive (and THAT is what we must concentrate on) is the fact that Hayden is making a strong improvement. The negative is that Ford and Hayden must miss each other. Perhaps Ford will get stronger FASTER so that he can be with his brother.

What an amazing trip you all have had! Full of daily miracles and great strides for each one of you.

As always, my prayers are with you all,

Pam J.

Dana and Trey, I hate it so bad that you guy's have to see the bad things in NICU.
I know it has to make it really hard.
We are still praying for all of your little family.

I love your updates! My daughter was born Jan 22, 1988 weighing 2 pounds. She was 3 months early. She now is 19 with a beautiful 9 mth. old daughter of her own. The both of them are very healthy & happy. God sees us through, please keep your faith. I know it is hard to keep that, but hear me when I say God has plans for Ford & Hayden. You are in my thoughts & prayers and remember tears are good.

What a wonderful blessing to read this morning as the sun rises over the tree tops! They are gaining weight well and they will SOON be coming home. You know Dana and Trey, my brother in law and his wife have a set of twins (boy and girl) that will be a year old on April 3rd. First that's hard to believe. But When you say one is stubborn, it is so so true. The boy in this set of twins is just a little spitfire. He defies everything he's NOT suppose to do. I think it's just for the attention. Ha! While the little girl Addy, she is calm and sweet and cries if you tell her no cause she knows she has done wrong. She would rather play alone but brother doesn't allow her to do that! Your little soilders of God will soon be together again. Dana they are doing so well. Look back at the days when they were so frail. They are active, growing little boys now! How wonderful is that? I know it's hard to have them separated, but have Trey to go to the Progressive NICU and you stay with the little fighter. I bet as he gets older it will be him that gives you more fits and trouble than you can ever imagine! ha!! I thank God they are doing so well and Ford will come around for only a short time to realize that maybe he's not in control. He just needs your attention! Hold them little men tight when you can, My Mom is holding them at night for you. I am glad she is there! My Mom was a Nurse, so she knows what she's doing! I love you all and May God Continue to Bless you all.

It was Super to see the update today! You all are in my prayers. Remember to always praise God even when we think something is going wrong. God is still in control, we all know he doesn't make mistakes. He is directing our faith and trust in him. You both have witnessed to all your viewers that you all are true believers in Christ. Take some time to relax and get some rest.God will never leave your babies unattended, he is always on duty! I pray that Ford & Hayden are showered with blessings of stronger lungs and less ventilators, and mommy & daddy are are blessed with lots of rest and renewed strength

Dana & Trey, I awoke this morning at about 2:25 and immediatley went to your blog. I am not sure why, but I feel the need to write. I hope the boys are still continuing to improve and that you and Trey are able to spend a lot of good time with them and are finding time to get the much needed rest you both need in order to be with them. I think of your little family everyday and always say a prayer for all of you. I find myself during my day thinking of you all and will even say out load, "Lord, please keep them in Your loving Arms." I know the prayers are being answered and they will continue to be answered. I love you all very much and my prayer for you and Trey is to bring them little boys home soon!!!

All my love,

It is bitter sweet that one gets better and they are not in the same room anymore. I would imagine your sweet babies still connect though, twins do that!
We pray for you, know the good Lord is with you and is giving you the strength and love you need to get through this while your babies get stronger.
Your sons are fighters and want to go home with mommy and daddy!

Dear Hugheys,
I wanted you to know we have continued to pray for you and keep up with you. I am so happy that your boys are getting better and you have had the joy of holding them and letting them know how much they are already loved. I have been where you are twice and know the blessing of our growing faith in these times. I wanted you to know that we thank you for sharing your life and faith with all of us. I know you will be bringing them home soon. We are praying for your continued strength and I know God will provide. Tell the Boys we are still praying for them as well. Take Care and God Bless,
The Whites Luke 1:37

WOW, they are getting so big.... I rememimber when my twin boys were that small.. I was so proud the day I got to hold them outside the cribs for the first time.. And the day I got to feed them.. I cryed the whole time... My boys were the same way, one did better than the other, and soon they both were home... But now they are on the same page, so to speak, and I love it..... My twins just hit 16 months on the 15th.. I can't wait to here about the day you get to take your little guys home.... God Bless, Michelle and my twins Phillip and Richard. Texas

When my first little niece came along, we almost lost her mother due to pregnancy complications and they couldn't even say if the baby would make it or not. But, my sister and her baby girl made it. The baby was such a preemie and had special needs - but as with you prayers from families and friends never failed. My niece is now 26 years old - totally healthy and beautiful. She even graduated from Robert E. Lee with honors when she was only 16 years old and an 11th grader. GOD is still on the throne and your babies are in his wonderful hands. HE does not fail us - so keep putting one foot in front of the other and hold on tight to the LORD's hand. Before you know it your boys will be playing ball and into mischief.
You all are in our hearts and prayers daily. We leave you the following:
DON'T QUIT -When things go wrong as they sometimes will, when the roads you're trudging seems all uphill, when you're feeling low and the stress is high; and you want to smile but you have to sigh, when worries are getting you down a bit by all means pray - AND DON'T YOU QUIT. Success if failure turned inside out, GOD'S hidden gift in the clouds of doubt, you never can tell how close you are - it may be near when it seems so far. So trust in the LORD when you're hardest hit - it's when things go wrong that you must not QUIT!

We are praying for you all. These little one are special in God's eyes. Our prayers for strength, hope and peace are with you all. Keep looking up when things look down for Ford. God is hovering there. He knows whats best for both of those precious boys. my favorite verse at all times is Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you" says the Lord " plans to prosper you, not to harm you. Plans for a Future and a HOPE"

Trust in Him for that hope and you will see miracles everyday in your kids.

Love and prayers
